Wu Junheng and Tao Yuan, two students from the School of Foreign Studies (SFS), Hefei University of Technology (HFUT), won a third prize in the finals of the 25th “FLTRP Cup” National English Debating Competition, which concluded successfully the other day after fierce competitions between 148 teams from universities all over China. The team from the SFS was led by Pan Chenxi, who also served as the team coach. The winning makes HFUT the only university in the final competitions from Anhui.
The competition started last October, going through three stages: campus competition, regional competition and national competition. In the second stage, the teacher and participating contestants stood up the pressure, remained calm in the debates and finally stood out from 116 teams in the East China regional competition, winning a second prize and succeeded in advancing to the national finals. When preparing for the finals, the two students were so active in exchanging ideas for improvement and practiced diligently according to the analysis of the guiding teacher. In responding to the summary of their shortcomings and solutions to the problems, they tried hard to perfect their performance. After eight rounds of round-robins within two days in this nationwide competition, they finally won the third prize, manifesting the outstanding language proficiency and critical thinking ability of students in HFUT.
