The Cross Cultural Communication and Technology Translation Research Center, a research institution directly under the leadership of Hefei University of Technology, was established in 2015.

Based on the engineering background of the university and the present research advantages of the School of Foreign Studies, the center uses corpus and database technology to conduct academic research in the fields of cross-cultural communication, corpus-based translation, corpus linguistics, translation and image communication, scientific translation, translation technology and applied linguistics. Meanwhile, adhering to the principles of combining theory and practice, and of academic research and service to society, the center actively promotes interdisciplinary integration according to the needs for the development of the country, so as to better serve the university, the academic community and the society.

Currently, the center has one professor, six associate professors and three lecturers – among them are five doctors and five postgraduate supervisors. The members of the center have led one project supported by the National Social Science Foundation, two humanities and social sciences projects of the Ministry of Education, and eight provincial scientific research projects, including those listed as Anhui provincial philosophical and social science projects. Concurrently, they have published more than 30 high-quality papers in various journals such as Chinese Translators Journal, Foreign Languages in China, Journal of Foreign Languages, and Foreign Languages and Their Teaching. The team has also published eight academic monographs and translated works, and edited eight textbooks in chief. In addition, they have chaired about a dozen teaching and research projects at different levels, including those listed as Anhui's quality engineering projects.

The academic activities conducted by the center to pool academic resources include seminars, symposiums and workshops. In addition, the center regularly invites outside experts to participate in its activities, so as to strengthen communication and provide catalysts for producing more and higher quality academic outcomes. Moreover, relying on various research projects, the center has independently built quite a few corpora, including the Chinese-English parallel corpus of Chinese Literature (1951-1966), the English-Chinese parallel corpus of The Study of Sociology, the Chinese-English parallel corpus of Mao Dun Literature Award Works, and the Chinese-English parallel corpus of Ken Liu’s English translation of science fiction novels. All this has enabled the center to continously carry out academic research.
